ClearBox Enterprise RADIUS Server enables centralized authentication and administration for thousands of entities. It secures wired and wireless networks, granting access only to valid users and only to authorized network services.
Pros: RADIUS or the remote authentication dial-in user service is AAA or a authentication, authorization and accounting protocol. ClearBox is an implementation of the same for enterprise use. In addition, it offers roaming and distributed authentication and accounting through its ability to proxy requests to other servers regardless of the originating client`s location. Easily configurable this can control access to wireless access to the enterprise network too. It actually covers the range of home networks to commercial access points and enterprise networks. A few clicks an IP address set up and a password may be the simplest configuration to start authentication services on the network.
The authorization database could be a local flat table data base or a whole range of directories and databases. The centralized user database can be used by many access points, making it easy to support a network and its users. ClearBox can authenticate with LDAP directories (for example, MS Active Directory, OpenLDAP), Remote RADIUS servers, including token servers with built-in RADIUS servers, Windows NT/2000/2003 Active Directory domains, workgroups and groups, MS SQL Server, MS Access, MySQL, Oracle, PostreSQL and other ODBC and OLE DB compliant data sources.
For Wi-Fi authentication, the product supports IEEE 802.1x authentication providing secure and reliable authentication services in WEP/WPA/WPA2 protected wireless networks. It supports all protocols supported by Windows wireless clients (Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista) - PEAP for password-based access and EAP-TLS for digital certificates based access. Dealing with digital certificates may become too complicated, especially for personnel who have no experience with them. ClearBox provides easy-to-use wizards which helps to create a certificate or prepare a request to some certificate authority. Billing could be managed by third party tools.
Cons: Robustness of implemented security is hard to test at end user level.
Overall a well implemented and easy to use system, a 4 star performer.
